I don't usually put together a formal TBR (to be read) list each month, but I thought I would give it a shot! Each month, I typically have three books that are selected by book clubs I'm in: a classics book club I read with one of my college friends, my sorority's alumnae book club, and The Stacks Book Club (listen to Traci's podcast The Stacks anywhere you listen to podcasts; you're missing out if you're not!). The rest of the books I pick are based on my mood, a movie coming out, or a series I've started. Let's get started!*
Persuasion by Jane Austen
My friend and I watched the Netflix adaption of Persuasion a few months ago and really enjoyed it, so we decided to read this for book club this month. We have read Pride and Prejudice and Emma prior to this one, and we weren't the biggest fans of those, so Jane Austen is usually not a priority read for us. Hot take: the hype simply doesn't make sense.
The Meaning of Mariah Carey by Mariah Carey with Michaela Angela Davis
This is not something I would normally read, but one of my reading goals for 2023 is to follow The Stacks Book Club this year so I don't miss an episode of the podcast. This pick is the first celebrity memoir for the podcast, and I'm excited to read this! Plus, who doesn't love Mariah Carey?
A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
I was watching movie previews a few months ago, and I saw one for A Man Called Otto starring Tom Hanks. Tom Hanks is one of my favorite actors, and the book is almost *always* better than the movie, so I had to add this to my TBR this month since the movie comes out January 13. I know Backman has a lot of love for his Beartown series, but this is the first book I've read of his.
The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory
I read The Wedding Party in February 2021 and absolutely loved it! It was the third book in a series of books set in the same world (I don't usually skip around in series because that is too chaotic, even for me.), so I went back and read The Wedding Date recently and am hoping to read the rest of the series by the end of the year.
Elizabeth I, Red Rose of the House of Tudor, England, 1544 by Kathryn Lasky
This seems like a really random book, but this is one of the books from the Royal Diaries series. I remember reading some of these books as a child, and I LOVED them. I saw someone on my Goodreads reading them, and it was like a childhood memory was unlocked, so I'm hoping to read all 20 (yikes) of the diaries in 2023 in publication order.
*My sorority book club is not meeting until January 10, so that book is not currently listed on this TBR.
