Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid is a story of the 1970s band, Daisy Jones & The Six. The story is told in interviews of the band members, spouses, and other people associated with the band, including producers. It was so interesting to see how this all came together, and the identity of the interviewer who conducted and compiled the interviews in such a way that it brings the story to life is incredibly surprising, but in a good way.
I honestly felt like this was a real band after reading it, and I found myself just sitting in my bed like "Wow." I wanted to look up the band and see what they looked like and know more about them, but then I remembered this is a novel, so they aren't real. I was so deeply entranced by this story that I read it in a 24 hour time frame. I also loved how the songs that were referenced in the book were written in the back as an addition to the book. Reid really imagined this band to be so realistic that it's easy to see why it was adapted into a TV series (out on Prime Video on March 3!).
I read this book so I could enjoy the TV adaptation to its fullest extent, and I was not disappointed. This book was adapted by Hello Sunshine, Reese Witherspoon's production company, after Daisy Jones & The Six was selected as Reese's Book Club pick in 2019. I cannot wait to see this band actually come to life!
This book solidified Taylor Jenkins Reid as a queen of historical fiction and possibly as an auto-buy author for me. I have already read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo (and am excited to see it adapted into a movie), and I cannot wait to eventually pick up her other books, Malibu Rising and Carrie Soto is Back.
