Ready Player One by Ernest Cline was an adventure. It follows Wade Watts as he tries to find the golden egg that James Halliday, the creator the OASIS game, has left embedded into the game that would leave the person who finds the egg Halliday's estate.
I originally wasn't super excited about this book. I felt like it was really long and not the type of book I would like because it was science fiction and had an overall nerdy vibe. I don't play or know much about video games, so I wasn't really sure I would enjoy this book. Despite the pretty slow beginning, I felt like the pace picked up as the race to the golden egg between Wade and his friends against the IOI, and it started to become enjoyable for me.
The main reason I picked up this book was because it was set partially in Columbus, Ohio. Halliday's OASIS help center and IOI are based in the city, and Wade eventually visits Columbus and talks about the nearby The Ohio State University and walking along High Street, which is one of the streets of Columbus situated in Ohio State's campus that I'm familiar with.
I ended up liking this book for more than the setting towards the end, but I don't think I will read the sequel, Ready Player Two. People I trust with their reading opinions told me it wasn't as good, so I don't feel compelled to read it. However, I do think watching the movie and comparing the book to it would be really interesting.
Have you read or watched Ready Player One? What did you think of the book, the movie, or both?
