Hello everyone and happy new year! I hope you're having a wonderful (and bookish) start to 2023. I spent the last minutes of 2022 watching Ohio State play in the 2022 Peach Bowl, and while it wasn't the outcome I wanted, it was a great game to watch.
This year, I have proclaimed 2023 to be "The Year of Jennifer." What this means is that I will be saying "yes" when I want to say yes, saying "no" when I want to say "no," and just keeping myself a priority. I know this will be a difficult yet rewarding journey for me, and I'm sharing what is keeping this journey at the forefront for me.
I will be keeping two guiding words for 2023 to keep me grounded in my values and what I want from my life. I saw this from Amber Burns (@byamberburns on Instagram), and I wanted to partake in this and see how it guides me through this new year. These guiding words are meant to keep me aligned with what I've set out to do in 2023.
The words I've chosen are "intention" and "present." As I reflected on 2022, I set some goals to be more intentional with all of my relationships, including those with my friends, family, and myself. I saw a decline in doing things for myself and others without intention, and while that's not a bad thing, I wanted to be more mindful of my intentions with myself and others this year. I also chose "present" because I've been stagnated with anxiety and fear of the big changes that happened in 2022 (hello college graduation!), so I've made it a priority to stay present within myself and the moment I'm in, feel the feelings I'm experiencing, and listening to my body.
Does having a guide word for this year seem like a good practice for you? Let me know what your guide word(s) for 2023 are if you have one; I'd love to know and chat about it!
