The Bachelor Recap: Week 1

*There are spoilers to Week 1 of The Bachelor in this post!*

Happy Bachelor season to all who celebrate! Yesterday, Monday, January 23, commenced the 27th season of The Bachelor. If you've been living under a rock, this year's Bachelor is Zach Shallcross, who was dating Rachel in Rachel and Gabby's season of The Bachelorette until he left after fantasy suites when he felt that he was being led on by Rachel. I personally liked Zach but felt like I didn't know him a lot since he didn't get a lot of screen time until the end, similarly to Clayton from last season. I am excited to see how this season plays out, but this week, I'll be recapping the first episode!

The Basics: This episode was just introductions, a cocktail party, and the first rose ceremony. Zach started with 30 women to date and sent eight women home during the rose ceremony, so there are 22 women heading into the first week of dates.

First Impressions: There are SO. MANY. NURSES. I know Gabby was a nurse, but Zach dated Rachel? I think all of these women are gorgeous, and while I'm not familiar with everyone yet and can't match all of the names to faces, I'm excited to see how the first dates will go next week. I thought some of the entrances were clever; the party bus from Christina was my personal favorite. Speaking of entrances, I am quite positive that Zach's kiss with Bailey after she stepped out of the limo is ~the~ quickest kiss in Bachelor history. Granted, they met on After the Final Rose (ATFR) of The Bachelorette, but that was FAST. Her name tag was cute though because she played on him not originally remembering her name.

Can we also have a moment for Brianna's dress? The red dress with roses! I feel like that was partially production's choice for the dress, but Brianna was STUNNING. The moment she had with Zach was also really cute as well.

I will say that Madison was not someone I liked immediately. She was the one who wanted to kiss Zach after already having time together, so she stole him for a second conversation where she taught him how to griddy and get a kiss. However, the kiss was "par," and since she didn't feel wanted, she started to self destruct. I thought this was really odd because I feel like tears this quick is not something Bachelor Nation sees everyday, and then her interrupting Zach and Jesse prior to the rose ceremony, where she ultimately got sent home, was a choice. I think Zach did the right thing by going with his instincts and sending her home.

Favorite Women: I, as of this moment, am rooting for Bailey and Brianna. I liked them a lot on ATFR, and I'm sure I'll like more of the women as I get to know them more, but I think their connections with Zach are pretty strong.

Potential Villains: I think Christina definitely will be made into a villain. She is very confident in herself and carries herself in a way that exudes self esteem and that she won't take anything from anyone. Considering the previews from the rest of the season, it seems like she definitely causes some trouble later on in the season.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think Greer also has villain potential. Greer received the first impression rose from Zach, which makes sense considering that he seemed to have the best chemistry with her as of this point. However (and correct me if I'm wrong), the way she kept saying "I love Austin," referring to the city Zach lives in, "and Austin is where I want to end up." I just felt like this was not 100% genuine, and I'm not sure why I feel that way, but I do. It just seems too perfect that she wants to live where he lives.
