The Bachelor Recap: Week 4

*There are spoilers to Week 4 of The Bachelor in this post!*

CW: domestic violence

This week, three more women vying for Zach's heart and final rose were sent home after a magical week in the Bahamas. There are about 11 or 12 women left, which is crazy to think about since there were 30 women to start with less than a month ago.

With all honesty, I found this episode to be boring. The drama about Anastasia being there for the wrong reasons/Instagram followers was overhyped, and I found that there was nothing making me want to continue watching this specific episode. There are always some episodes that are more boring than others in every season, and this just happened to be one of them.

Something I find difficult about The Bachelor is how the one-on-one dates, and specifically the night portion, are essentially used as a trauma dump so the lead understands why this specific person is the way they are. I do understand that in this environment, with eight weeks of dating before an engagement, things are rushed and happen very quickly. However, it must be a lot to take in week after week as the lead to hear all of the traumatic events that have happened to all of these people in their past relationships to understand where they're coming from, what they're looking for, and how they will show up in your relationship. Brooklyn's conversation about her abusive relationship was not uncomfortable to sit through, but it was just really disheartening to sit there and feel like she had to say this here, on national TV, so she could let Zach in and get a rose to progress their relationship. I just feel that trauma dumping for the sake of a rose is twisted, and it's something I've only griped about the franchise recently.

Kaity, Jess, and Charity are still my favorite contestants at this moment. I also have a lot of respect and fondness for Brooklyn. I'm excited for the rest of the season, and especially for the Zoom call that Zach is on in London next week?!
