The Bachelor Recap: Week 5

*There are spoilers to Week 5 of The Bachelor in this post!*

This week was a pretty cringey week. Zach and the women left went to London to find love, and I really was excited about it because London is a city that I absolutely love! However, Zach tested positive for COVID between the first one-on-one with Gabi and the group date, which led to the group date and the one-on-one with Charity being canceled. This was also the first virtual cocktail party and rose ceremony, and while it was incredibly strange, I think it was handled well. I liked how it wasn't Zach on a camera with everyone in the same room fighting for attention, so everyone had their own conversations with him, but I was kind of weirded out with the making out over a Zoom call.

I liked the one-on-one with Gabi. I think the shopping spree dates are always really fun (the one between Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell sticks out in my mind), and the custom fragrance and playing with Corgis from the royal line made this conventional date stand out from ones in the past. However, I think the way Gabi went about it after coming back from the day portion of the date was not my favorite. I have never seen a contestant proceed to open everything she got in the shopping spree in front of the other women, and it just sat with me in a bad way.

I also think Greer's reaction to finding out Zach and Gabi had high tea on their date, while valid, was disproportionate to the situation. I think her saying that she should have been on that date because she loves tea and has it tattooed on her body (the zoom on it from the producers was actually insane) was completely out of pocket. There are probably other people who also like tea and wanted to have high tea with Zach, so it's just not the place for that magnitude of an emotion.

Jess, Kaity, Brooklyn, and Charity are still my favorite women on this season. I hope that Charity gets her one-on-one made up in the next location because she deserves it. Charity was also the one to console Greer about the date, and I think the way she not only supports Zach and handles her relationship with Zach with grace but also supports the other women when she can says a lot about Charity. I will be interested to see what happens with Greer this week, as her conversation with Zach during the cocktail party did not go well. I'm hoping she isn't around for much longer.
