*There are spoilers to Weeks 8-10 of The Bachelor in this post!*
It's been a minute since The Bachelor ended and revealed that Zach Shallcross is now engaged to Kaity Beggar. I've been watching live and eagerly awaiting for Charity's season of The Bachelorette as well, but I haven't dedicated the time to share my thoughts about the episodes here. I wanted to pop on and share them anyway, so I'm searching my brain for my thoughts on Hometowns, Women Tell All, Fantasy Suites, and the finale/After the Final Rose.
Hometowns
This episode is my favorite episode of the *entire* season. I love how it's the contestants planning the dates and showing the lead around their hometown. I love how we, the viewers, see the culmination of this process through many of the women sharing that they are falling in love with the lead, in this case Zach. It's just such a sweet episode every season, and I LOVE it! I really enjoyed this episode. I didn't have many thoughts on this aside from all of the hometowns being really great and so thoughtful. I thought Kaity's being a day of running errands since Zach also lives in Austin was super cute too!
Women Tell All
I was a little taken aback that this episode came when it did; I remember it usually happening after Fantasy Suites. Aside from the timing, I thought this episode had all of the drama that didn't exist in the season, and some of it was too much. I thought Cat and the other woman who was dragging Anastasia through the mud (even though I didn't like her much on the season) and saying they had receipts on her dating someone during the show was absolutely ridiculous and just completely immature. The Kat vs. Brooklyn situation was also weird; it seemed like it was never resolved, but they are still friends? I'm confused?! I think Christina's awareness has definitely increased, which I appreciated, and her self tan was... something. I am now a converted Jess stan and love how this journey taught her a lot about herself.
I also want to acknowledge that the discussions of race during this episode is something that has not been commonplace on The Bachelor. I appreciated that they took the time to do this, and Greer's words about her defending Black face in the past and Genevie, while it shouldn't have been her responsibility to lecture about this, sharing information about microaggressions to help people understand them was better than what has been the past in Bachelor Nation. Obviously, these discussions are still not great and there is much more about The Bachelor inherently, but this is progress.
I was also FLOORED when Charity was announced early as the Bachelorette! I loved her on this season, and I was sad to see her sent home after hometowns. However, I'm excited to see her thrive and find love on her own journey!
Fantasy Suites
This episode is the most controversial episode of this season. I felt like the boundary Zach placed was valid of not wanting to have sex during this week, but making that generalization for all of the women and not letting the natural decisions occur and hearing what each woman wanted and needed was incredibly inconsiderate. I also had a lot of qualms with how everything was handled with Gabi and Arielle. With Arielle, she had no knowledge of what was happening until it aired, which is despicable. As for Gabi, it seemed like they had agreed to keep them being intimate between them, and Gabi didn't know that Zach was telling everyone until the episode aired. I didn't understand how based on how Zach had conducted himself throughout the season and eliminating women left and right when their beliefs conflicted, but when Gabi said that she wouldn't be able to get engaged to him if they weren't intimate, he didn't send her home there. I'm glad he didn't because I like and respect Gabi, and maybe it was just he had strong emotions for her that he felt he could compromise, but I just thought it was weird that he had this way of doing things and he went against it at the end.
Finale and After the Final Rose
I didn't have much to add to this episode. I am satisfied with how this season ended. I felt that the conversations Zach had with Arielle and Gabi were good, even though the one with Gabi felt like it was heading towards going in circles towards the end. I am beyond excited for Zach and Kaity, and I love seeing their love story continue on Instagram (I follow them and love them together so much!). I hope to see Arielle and Gabi on Paradise, and if that's not meant for them, I'm rooting for their happiness too!
If you've made it this far, thank you so much for reading all of these recaps, or even just this one! I appreciate your patience when I slacked on these and your time to read these and support my love for The Bachelor.
Did you watch this season of The Bachelor, and what do you think of Zach and Kaity? Are you excited to see Charity as The Bachelorette? Let me know!
