*Warning: There are spoilers for Week 1 of The Bachelorette in this post!*
It is the end of June, which means it is Bachelorette season! I didn't do so well with keeping up with my The Bachelor recaps this past winter, but I'm giving it another go with The Bachelorette. I am so excited to see Charity Lawson's journey to find love after getting eliminated at hometowns in Zach Shallcross' season of The Bachelor this past March.
Some key details about this season before we start are that this is the 20th season of The Bachelorette and there is a new time for the first time since I started watching in 2017. I am not sure if there will be anything commemorating this anniversary. The last notable thing I remember is Michelle, one of 2021's Bachelorettes, cutting a cake for the 100th or 200th episode of The Bachelorette. Also new this year is that the show is slotted for the 9 p.m. slot on ABC instead of the 8 p.m. slot. I'm not sure what the reason for this change is, but I'm watching regardless, so I guess it doesn't matter too much for me!
Since this was only the first night, I don't have too many thoughts about too many of the men. My favorite as of now is Joey (the tennis pro from Hawaii), and I also liked Brayden (recipient of the first impression rose) and the doctor whose first introduction was Charity using his stethoscope and saying his heart was beating only for her.
I immediately did not like Spencer. He was giving a lot of nervous/anxious energy, and I just wasn't that much of a fan. For me personally, and also based on the traditional timeline of the show, I think mentioning his son now was too early. I also did not like the guy who was the world record high jumper, but he ended up not getting a rose last night, so I'm happy about that.
The debacle about the first impression rose is interesting. I honestly liked Brayden at first, and while I think that him claiming he would receive the first impression rose based on their conversation and kiss was very arrogant, I don't think it's a bad thing to be happy about it. It might just be his nature to show his emotions very easily and proudly, and I don't think that's something to be punished for. I'm glad Charity took his brother's insight (after disguising as a bartender at the bar) and made her own decision about what to do with Brayden instead of making the decision Nehemiah, or any of the other men would make, which would have been to send Brayden home. Based on the preview for the season, I'm curious to see if/how my opinion changes of Brayden.
Charity's dress was also STUNNING! I loved the pink and the sequins; it was so gorgeous, and I loved how it looked on her. I can't wait to see what else she wears this season! The Maybelline closeup at the shot of her getting ready for the limo entrances was really odd, but it started to make sense when the addition of Maybelline ads with Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt were sprinkled into the show. This special advertising, which is what I believed it was noted as in the credits of the episode, was new, and it just seems so forced. I hope this doesn't take away from better content that I don't want to miss out on.
Are you watching Charity find love on this season of The Bachelorette? I'd love to who you're rooting for!
